Bold Corner (2025) is a carved wooden bust capturing a child in the midst of an emotional outburst. Borrowing its title from the familiar childhood instruction to "go to the bold corner," the work reimagines that place of punishment as one of vulnerability, reflection, and emotional honesty.​

Carved from a single piece of timber, the natural cracks remainvisible, running through the face and body like traces of livedexperience. Rather than concealing these imperfections, theybecome part of the narrative, suggesting how moments of anger,shame, frustration, and love leave lasting impressions.​

The figure may be my child, myself, or a convergence of both,reflecting the cyclical nature of family relationships. The sculptureexplores motherhood, memory, and the inherited patterns ofdiscipline and care, asking where emotion belongs within the family.It invites viewers to look beyond the expression of defiance andinstead consider the vulnerability that often lies beneath it.Ultimately, Bold Corner becomes not only a portrait of childhood,but also an acknowledgement of the imperfect ways we learn tolove, protect, and understand one another.​
