As Artist in Residence for The Cahersiveen Music and Arts Festival 2026, I choose to do a live carving from a beech tree that had been felled in the Daniel O' Connell Memorial Church. The research began with Mary C. McGillicuddy’s thesis, Mackerel Fishing by Seine Boat in Southern Ireland, c.1880s–1920s, with particular reference to the role of women, which examines the often-overlooked contribution of women to Cahersiveen’s fishing industry. In response, I exaggerated the scale of the barrel and fish, while reducing the female figure to a deliberately insignificant scale. The work reflects the historical imbalance between the visibility of the fishing industry and the women whose labour supported it.​

The finished work was donated to the Cahersiveen Community Centre.
